Life Lessons from the Quran

Quran, being the Holy Book for Muslims offers numerous life-altering lessons. Each chapter has its own unique meaning for Muslims to take guidance from.

Muslims have found comfort by reciting the Quranic verses. It is recited at the bedside of an ill individual in order to provide ease in this life and the Hereafter. For Muslims, Quran holds an enormous power.

Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in stages by Angel Gabriel.

Seek Help through Prayer:

Salah was the single socio-religious activity that held Muslims together. The basic purposes of a prayer is to seek assistance from God, protecting oneself from loathsome deeds, and eventually attain happiness in this life and the Hereafter. Muslims use prayer to feel at peace and to provide answers to their prayers.

"And they have been commanded no more than this: To worship Allah, offering Him sincere devotion, being true (in faith); to establish regular prayer; and to practice regular charity; and that is the Religion Right and Straight." -- Sura 98 (98:5), The Holy Quran

Tolerance:

Diversity is recognized an appreciated in Quran. Muslims are ordered to tolerate differences between Muslims and non-Muslims and live with peace and harmony. Islam accepts the existence of other religions with an attitude of openness.

Muslims are required to practice justice and equality and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) demonstrated that with his behavior towards non-Muslims or minorities. He showed respect to non-Muslims by standing up when a Jewish funeral passed by.

As Quran asserts in al-Qasas verse 55

‘’We shall have our deeds and you shall have your deeds; peace be on you, we do not desire the ignorant’.

Human Rights:

Quran says that all humans are descendants of one man, Adam, hence all humans are equal. An individual deserves the right of life, the right of respect, the right to justice, right of freedom, the right of sustenance, the right to work, and the right of privacy. Quran talks about all of these rights in detail.

From the perspective of Quran, these rights came to existence when humans did. A ruler or any human agency cannot create or abolish these general rights. Furthermore, Quran forbids racism, tribalism, sexism and slavery.

Treatment of Women:

In the eyes of Allah, women are equal to men. They can perform all the duties that men can. Women have the right to acquire knowledge and education. Allah says:

“And for women are rights over men similar to those of men over women.” (2: 228)
